![]() ![]() ![]() Production of big files is slow and I suspect Silverfast would speed it up. VueScans basic functions allow you to restore color, add sharpening filters, adjust white balance, and batch scan multiple images. I'm running on OS X 10.5.5 with 9 gig of RAM with a Dual Core Intel chip 2.66 GHz. In general terms, VueScan is one of the best scanner management tools available today, one that you dont even need to pay for, and that will provide you with. Vuescan provides a fast, simple, and stable platform for image scanning using a variety of devices, including specialized slide and film scanners. I read that lots of users do and another version of the software is due out very soon. I don't suffer any abnormal crashes with Nikon Scan. Maybe I should investigate more as I'm open to change. Vuescan is cheap and not a cost to worry about if it has any benefit. I would like Silverfast, but there's a big price tag on it in the UK that I'm not prepared to pay. I'm more into acquiring a capture for PhotoShop than scanning for the final image, so maybe that is an influence. The file name of the most recent scan is displayed in the menu bar, and this is the file that’s emailed when you press the Email button (the same file that’s displayed when you press the View button). My findings are that whilst Nikon Scan has a 'clunky' interface, it produces scans that are no worse than the other and several of the test scans have produced better results than the other two. VueScan 9.5.94 now has the capability to email a scan after you’ve saved it to the hard drive. This works best with a scanner like the Fujitsu ix500 or the Epson DS-510 (you can read our photo scanner recommendations here). ![]() I've also downloaded Silverfast a few times. One great way to use VueScan is to scan hundreds or thousands of photos using a scanner with an automatic document feeder. I use Nikon Scan on an 8000 running on a Mac Pro desktop and have down-loaded the trial version of Vuescan 4 or 5 times. ![]()
